Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo looks to be gearing up for another shot at a political office as his campaign committee paid a pollster about $67,700 for "polling costs," according to state financial disclosures reviewed by the Washington Examiner.
According to the Expedition Strategies website, the pollster works "collaboratively with campaigns, companies, and advocacy groups to take on their largest challenges, build their brands, and win their campaigns."
Cuomo paid the same pollster around $93,200 in May 2022 for the same reason. It was just months before Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) won her first full term after she took over for Cuomo in the wake of the sexual harassment scandal that forced him out of office.
Cuomo has been floated as a candidate for mayor of New York City, a less prestigious office than governor but a powerful one nonetheless. The New York Post reported that Cuomo is unlikely to run if Mayor Eric Adams decides to, as they are friends, but he would be the front-runner if Adams does not.
And it is not a guarantee Adams will.
An April poll showed only 16% of likely voters in the city would vote for Adams in the next mayoral election. A majority of voters were concerned about the city's handling of crime and the migrant crisis, according to the survey.
Cuomo recently made a cryptic comment in response to a question about his electoral prospects posed on Real Time with Bill Maher.
“Are you running for mayor or governor?” Maher asked.
“There will be no direct answer, I just want you to know,” Cuomo replied. “I have no current plans to make plans.”
Cuomo's campaign committee also shelled out about $67,000 to Bulldog Strategies this year for campaign consulting services.

His campaign received only $5,371 in contributions from January to July but maintained about a $7.9 million war chest.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Cuomo's campaign but did not receive a response.
