Bryson DeChambeau left embarrassed after awkward exchange with interviewer at The Open

Bryson DeChambeau left much to be desired in his first round at Royal Troon , finishing his day shooting 76.

Because of his less-than-stellar outing, the LIV Golf star was asked about what was going through his mind as he went about his day and what calculations he was thinking about for a better outing for the rest of the Open Championship . While discussing his thought process Thursday, DeChambeau had an awkward exchange with the reporter, correcting them with a word that doesn't exist.

"There's not that many," DeChambeau jokingly told the reporter when asked what was going on in his head Thursday. "There's a couple. Yeah, there's a couple but not that many."

The reporter then continued with the question, stating: "Things that are maybe incalculable..." Immediately, DeChambeau corrected the reporter, claiming the word was instead "incalculatable." Of note, "incalculatable" is not a word, but "incalculable" is.

For reference, "incalculable" is defined by Merriam-Webster's online dictionary as: "Not capable of being calculated, very great or not predictable." In this case, with how the weather was something DeChambeau was not used to, there were incalculable adjustments he needed to make to get on the right path Thursday.

Despite shooting five over par for the day, the 30-year-old was not too worried about his performance, claiming he would figure it out sooner rather than later. Moreover, he believes his experience at other courses and tournaments in similar conditions will help him adjust.

"It's something equipment-related," DeChambeau continued. "The golf balls, I mean look, I'm not at 190 ball speed, right? So particularly when I'm hitting driver, 3-wood, those clubs are built for around that speed, that 190 ball speed and my 3-wood was around like 180, and so colder firmer conditions golf balls not compressing as much.

"So it's probably something along those lines but felt like I was swinging it somewhat OK, just the ball wasn't coming off in the window that I normally see. So it was a weird day."

The LIV Golf star also explained how he wasn't able to get the proper amount of time on the course and that he does find the conditions more daunting that initially expected. "I didn't get any practice in it," DeChambeau admitted.

"I didn't play much in the rain and yeah, it's a difficult test out here. Something I'm not familiar with, I never grew up playing it and not to say that that's the reason. I finished eighth at St. Andrews, so I can do it when it's warm and not windy."

Despite his rough outing, the U.S. Open winner is relishing the fact that he will have a good weekend playing alongside his peers. "At the end of the day, it's golf. And I get to go relax and enjoy watching others, playing in this rain and I'm going to go figure it out," he concluded.
