EXCLUSIVE : James Morosini, the filmmaker behind SXSW prize-winner I Love My Dad , has found his next project in Mommy’s Home , a psychological horror pic that he wrote and will direct for Lionsgate.

The story follows a young dad whose family life becomes terrifyingly unhinged when his 24-year-old mom is unfrozen decades after being cryogenically preserved.

Producers include Craig Flores, Dawn Olmstead, and Anonymous Content. David Levine, Garrett Kemble and Ryan Schwartz will executive produce on behalf of Anonymous Content, with Scott O’Brien and Jon Humphrey overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Dan Freedman negotiated deals on behalf of the studio, and casting for the film is set to commence soon.

Morosini is best known for writing, directing and starring in the comedy I Love My Dad , which won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in its 2022 premiere at SXSW before going on to distribution through Magnolia Pictures. Based on a true story, the film about a father that catfishes his estranged son on Facebook had him starring opposite Patton Oswalt, Lil Rel Howery, Amy Landecker, Claudia Sulewski and Rachel Dratch.

Prior to I Love My Dad , Morosini made his feature directorial debut with Threesomething , a romantic comedy on which he was also writer, director and star. As an actor, he’s also been seen on series like The Sex Lives of College Girls , American Horror Story , Feud , Son of Zorn and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend , among others. Up next, he’ll be seen starring in It’s What’s Inside , the horror comedy from Greg Jardin that Netflix acquired out of Sundance in a $17 million deal for worldwide rights.

Morosini is represented by Anonymous Content and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
