ASHWAUBENON — A manure spill that took place in eastern Outagamie County and western Brown County is under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. According to the DNR, the manure spill resulted in a fish kill.

The DNR was notified on Tuesday that manure was found in Dutchman Creek. That was when DNR staff noticed dead fish in the creek.

Manure was found in water near road crossings at Bain Road, Brown County U, Cyprus Drive, Packerland Drive, Circle Drive and Hansen Road.

A source of the manure is unknown, but the DNR and county Land Conservation have been on-site to look into the issue.

The DNR also recommended people and their pets to avoid contact with the Dutchman Creek waters . The creek runs predominantly through Hobart and Ashwaubenon, passing near the Interstate 41/State 172 interchange and linking up with the Fox River.

This isn't the state's first manure spill so far this year. In May, manure from a dairy in Monroe County flooded into Moore Creek, resulting in a mile-long fish kill. The spill was linked to Spring Valley Holstein Inc. following an investigation.

Laura Schulte, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, contributed to this report.
