Conor McGregor’s UFC career could surprisingly end far sooner than most fight fans ever expected.

It has been a long time since we have seen former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor inside the Octagon. After breaking his ankle in a second straight loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021, the Irish superstar has been rumored or scheduled to return multiple times. Yet he has remained on the sidelines.

McGregor was expected to return this month. That was before a broken pinky led to the postponement of his highly anticipated scrap with Michael Chandler. Nevertheless, “Notorious” has still stayed busy in the years away. And he returned to the spotlight today at a press conference for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship .

The MMA star owns a portion of the company and was there to promote an upcoming event and the brand. However, during the presser, he dropped some bombshell news. Conor McGregor has only two fights left on his current UFC contract.

It isn’t out of the question that if he can finally book his bout with Chandler, McGregor could be a free agent by this time next year. And it seems that he is already plotting a move to the company he is a part owner of, BKFC.

“For me, I have a little business left with the [UFC], two fights left on my contract, but for sure, we’ve got three lightweights up here on the dais, and I have my eye on all of this,” McGregor said. “I’m not up here just as an owner, player-manager, I’ll title myself on this one.”

Even if he were to lose his next two UFC bouts, McGregor taking his talents to BKFC as an active fighter would be a huge addition to the company. It will be interesting to see how quickly he finishes his UFC contract and actually hits free agency.
