Trump announces death of former Fox host Lou Dobbs

Longtime television news personality and conservative pundit Lou Dobbs has died, former President Trump announced Thursday.

“The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away — A friend, and truly incredible Journalist, Reporter, and Talent,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website . “He understood the World, and what was ‘happening,’ better than others. Lou was unique in so many ways, and loved our Country. Our warmest condolences to his wonderful wife, Debi, and family. He will be greatly missed!”

Trump did not offer any other details on Dobbs’s passing.

Dobbs was a veteran of cable news going back decades, and for years he hosted a news and analysis show that aired on the Fox Business Network.

Fox canceled Dobbs’s show in 2021 just days after he was named in a defamation lawsuit by voting systems company Smartmatic in connection with false claims made by Trump and his allies about the 2020 election and its software.

In a statement to The Hill on Thursday, Fox News Media said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lou Dobbs.”

“An incredible business mind with a gift for broadcasting, Lou helped pioneer cable news into a successful and influential industry,” the network said. “We are immensely grateful for his many contributions and send our heartfelt condolences to his family.”

Dobbs was one of Trump’s stanchest supporters in the media, and after leaving Fox he continued to promote the former president and his agenda on social media.

In a recent post on social platform X , he reacted to the assassination attempt on Trump on Saturday by writing “political persecution has only made the man stronger so there was only one option left.”

All eyes are on Trump on Thursday as he is set to address the Republican National Convention, where he will officially accept the party’s nomination for president again this fall.
