Halloween is a state of mind—as evidenced by the many brands prematurely (or not, depending on where you stand on all things fall) rolling out their Halloween goodies smack dab in the middle of the summer.

Target already debuted its collection of spooky decor online , with the full drop shoppable in stores in late August, while Walmart has definitely been met with some side-eye for aisles full of candy.

Some snack brands, like Oreo , Kit Kat, Reese’s and Brachs , even introduced their newest flavors as early as May and June, so it’s no surprise that Pop-Tarts is adding its name to the list, though, based on the feedback from social media users, they might be wishing they took a little more time developing their ghoulish concept as plenty feel it missed the mark.

Instagram foodie Markie_Devo revealed that the toaster pastry brand officially released “Vampire Bites,” but it didn’t take long for everyone to call it out for being a “gimmick snack.”

“These feature fluffy pastry bites with a sweet strawberry filling and a sprinkled frosting. A fantastically spooky little snack,” the account's description read.

While that might sound mouthwatering (who doesn't love a bite-sized Pop-Tart?), one user pointed out the obvious: “So it’s the same thing that’s been out just with a Halloween packaging?”

And they aren’t wrong as the exact same bites are available year-round without the scary good vibes.

Another consumer made a valid point, questioning, “Wait, why aren’t these shapes like fangs??”

The 28 fun-size pouches—clocking in at 100 calories per pouch—are the perfect addition to your snack bowl, especially if you’re looking to bypass the common candy that makes the rounds during the fall season, but it does seem like a missed opportunity not to give the treats any kind of spooky shape. Seriously, even bats would do!

Over the years, however, Pop-Tarts has proven that they don't mess with perfection, previously releasing Haunted Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Bites, which simply featured an orange frosting to capitalize on the fright-filled holiday.

For now, it remains unclear if the full-size Frosted Pumpkin Pie pastries will make their grand return, though, with society's continued obsession with all things pumpkin spice , it would be wise.

The “Vampire Bites” Pop-Tarts are available now at major retailers.
