Dillon Gabriel, QB Sr. Oregon: Splitting some hairs here. Oregon tackle Josh Conerly is probably the best offensive player coming into the Big Ten this season, but Gabriel will likely be more Player of the Yearish - if that makes any sense. If the Oklahoma transfer does what he’s supposed to do, he could end the season as the NCAA’s all-time passing leader.

Caleb Downs, S Soph. Ohio State: The guy is about to be the star on a team loaded with lots and lots of NFL talents. The Alabama transfer lived up to all of the hype as a freshman last season under Nick Saban, and so far in Columbus he hasn’t done anything other than amaze.
