    Columbia Pike shut down as crews work on gas leak in Arlington

    UPDATE, 7/18, 5:57 p.m. — Officials said the leak was contained and the roadway will be open back up shortly.


    ARLINGTON, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Crews from the Arlington County Fire Department were at the scene of a gas leak Thursday afternoon.

    The natural gas leak was reported to be outside in the 1900 block of Columbia Pike. As a result, Columbia Pike was shut down between Courthouse Road and S. Scott Street.

    No nearby evacuations were needed as there were no hazardous readings found in the nearby buildings.

    Washington Gas said the leak was due to “third party damage.”
