MADISON COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A young golfer in Madison County aims to be the next pro golfer from Mississippi.

“When I won the Randy Watkins Junior Tournament out here last year, first day I shot my personal best of 71. And then I get to the clubhouse, I’m like, I’m down to stroke. So, I go into Sunday, down two strokes, playing with the leader, and I ended up winning by one stroke,” said Kaylee Gatlin, 14.

She is now competing against 95 other golfers across the nation in the Underrated Golf tour hosted by NBA player Stephen Curry.

“It was a relief. It was it was it really showed me that I can be out there. I can be marketable, and I can meet new people in a business atmosphere. So, yeah, it just shows you that all of us work hard. We’re all trying to get somewhere. And I’m just another one trying to make it,” Gatlin stated.

She is an incoming freshman at Germantown High in Gluckstadt, but she knows one day she’ll be a professional golfer. She credits her father for introducing her to the sport.

“Just going out there, being competitive with my dad, you know, I’m an athlete. I like to compete Just the fundamentals going out there, having fun. Started on the putting green. Once you get your first birdie, you just want more,” Gatlin said.

She will head to Notre Dame on Sunday, July 21 in hopes to become one of the 12 finalists to compete in the tour.
