    11 new red light cameras to be placed around Arlington

    ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Photo Red-Light Program will be expanding in Arlington County.

    There will be 11 new cameras installed at six intersections in phases before this year ends as part of the county’s efforts to increase transportation safety and the Vision Zero safety program .

    Cameras will be installed in the following locations:

    • Eastbound and Westbound Columbia Pike at Washington Boulevard
    • Westbound Langston Boulevard at N. Spout Run Parkway and SB N. Spout Run Parkway at Langston Boulevard
    • Eastbound and Westbound 10th Street N. at N. Barton Street
    • Westbound Langston Boulevard at N. Lynn Street
    • Westbound Wilson Boulevard at N. Lynn Street and Northbound N. Lynn Street at Wilson Boulevard
    • Westbound Langston Boulevard at EB I-66 Exit 72 Offramp

    The completion dates for the camera installations depend on weather, construction or other circumstances that may arise.

    There will be a month-long warning period to help raise awareness about the cameras’ and their new placements around the county. After the warning period is over, drivers will start to receive $50 tickets for each infraction.

    Currently, there are seven cameras placed around the county at these locations:

    • Eastbound and Westbound Columbia Pike at S. Glebe Road
    • Northbound Glebe Road at N. Fairfax Drive
    • Northbound Glebe Road at Washington Boulevard
    • Northbound Lynn Street at Eastbound Langston Boulevard
    • Southbound Fort Myer Drive at WB Langston Boulevard
    • Northbound and Southbound Richmond Highway at 23rd Street S.
    • Westbound Washington Boulevard at Langston Boulevard
    Virginia family warns parents after daughter’s tick paralysis

    The cameras operate every day, during all hours of the week. The cameras will take digital images and record footage, documenting any violations drivers make. A contracted company then reviews and validates the footage before sending it to Arlington police. An officer will review the footage and issue a ticket if needed.
