Liverpool has missed out on a transfer for 18-year-old wonderkid Leny Yoro , with the French talent having completed a $68m (£52m/€62m) move to Manchester United. Real Madrid and PSG were also among those to take a look at the center-back.

"Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honor," Yoro said, explaining his transfer decision to the Red Devils' official website .

"Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project and showed a lot of care for me and my family.

"I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new teammates. I cannot wait to get started."

One of the young players that Yoro will be looking to emulate is Cristiano Ronaldo . The Portugal winger also arrived at Old Trafford as a potentially generational talent at the age of 18.

Back in 2003, Ronaldo moved to Manchester United for a fee of $15.8m (£12.2m/€14.5m) from Sporting CP. He, of course, later moved on to Real Madrid — and given Yoro's initial preference was a move to Spain, perhaps history could repeat itself.

Liverpool.com says: Yoro will likely be a success at Manchester United but he would have had an even better chance of doing well at Liverpool, given the more stable team around him. Without Yoro coming in, Richard Hughes will have to find an alternative to avoid the Reds taking a big gamble heading into the new season under Arne Slot .
