Aanvi Kamdar, Travel Influencer, Dead at 27 After Falling Into Gorge While Filming Instagram Reel

Travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar has died after falling 300 feet into a gorge at a waterfall in India. She was 27.

Kamdar died on Tuesday when a trip with seven friends ended in a tragic accident. The social media content creator was visiting the Kumbhe waterfall, which is located about 80 miles south of Mumbai, when she slipped and fell into a gorge while shooting Instagram videos, local police confirmed on Tuesday, according to The Economic Times .

"She fell on the hard, slippery patch of rocks around 300 feet into the valley and couldn't be spotted initially," a rescuer told The Economic Times . "She was sent up using a stretcher attached to rappelling ropes. Six rescuers climbed down the hill, while another 50 assisted atop the hillock."

Following her fall, authorities were alerted and a six-hour rescue operation ensued, according to the outlet. Kamdar was initially responsive and put on a ventilator but died at Mangaon Taluka Government Hospital.

Officials said the accountant by trade was shooting an Instagram reel at the time of the accident, when she lost her footing and fell into the gorge, per The Hindustan Times and CBS News .

Kamdar described herself as a "detective for travel, luxury finds, cafés, itineraries, tips & feels" in her Instagram bio. The account has almost 300,000 followers.

Since news of Kamdar's death broke, mixed reactions have flooded the comment section of her latest Instagram post. Some commenters criticized Kamdar and cautioned people to not risk their lives for the sake of creating viral videos. Others mourned Kamdar and came to her defense.

"Please, let's focus on praying for her soul to rest in peace and remember the joy and positivity she brought to our lives. Stop commenting on the 'reel' part, we were not there, don't amplify misinformation," fellow travel influencer Aakanksha Monga commented in part.

"She was an extremely responsible traveler. It was an accident, could've happened to anyone, media headlines are made for attention & they're sadly negative. but please don’t let that slide the fact that she was a beautiful human," food influencer Shreya Sanghvi commented in part.
