WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — It’s that time of year again as the annual Ag Expo is an exciting gathering for the extended farm community.

Lauren is a student who views the Expo as a way to prepare for her future.

“I want to teach special education and help the kids,” she said. “So this is helping me because I give tours and walk the little kids around teaching them while having fun at the fair.”

Jase with 4-H, a youth mentorship and education program, is eager to enter his turkey and beef stew in the Ag Expo youth competition.

“You just really concentrate,” Jase said. “Don’t think about it in your head and get nervous. You just walk in there and it’s just you and the cow. Just you and the cow walking in there.”

Kayleigh, also with 4-H, said the Ag Expo is the social occasion of the year.

“Family night is fun,” Kayleigh said. “Like playing musical buckets. But that got a little extreme this year.”

Fair board member Bryan Babbington said future farmers groups and 4-H’ers find the Expo rewarding.

“The kids work really hard on their animal projects,” Babington said. “It’s a chance for them to come out, exhibit them and shine.”

The Expo concludes at sundown Saturday.
