    2024 Open Championship second-round odds, golfers to watch

    One round is in the book at the 2024 Open Championship and 16 golfers are within 5 strokes of the lead in the 152nd tournament. Below, we look at BetMGM Sportsbook’s odds entering Friday’s 2nd round being played in Scotland. Check back throughout the season for our PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets .

    Daniel Brown shot a 6-under-par 65 in tough conditions and will take a 1-stroke lead into Friday’s 2nd round at Royal Troon (7,385 yards, par 71). Brown is the No. 226 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

    Pre-tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler (+550 to open the week) is tied for 11th place at 1-under 70. He’s now at +400. Defending champion Brian Harman , who won at 13-under 271, is tied for 42nd place at 2-over 73. He opened at +6600 to repeat and is now at +10000.

    The 29-year-old pro from England, who is playing in his 1st major championship, posted his bogey-free 65 by making 2 birdies in his last 3 holes to grab a 1-shot lead. He opened at +25000 to win.

    2024 Open Championship – In the hunt

    Before the 1st group tees off at 1:35 a.m. ET (USA, 4 a.m.-3 p.m. ET), here are a half-dozen players to watch as they try to chase down Brown.

    Shane Lowry (+450): The 37-year-old pro, who opened at +4000 to win, starts in 2nd place 1-shot back after a bogey-free 66 as he seeks a 4th PGA title and 2nd Open title. Golfweek’s No. 17 player won the 2019 Open at the Old Course of St. Andrews and has 4 top-25 finishes in 11 Opens.

    Justin Thomas (+1400): He starts in 3rd place, 2 shots back after a 3-under 68 in round 1. Golfweek’s No. 45 player opened at +6600.

    Xander Schauffele (+600): He starts tied for 4th place with 6 other golfers at 2-under 69. Golfweek’s No. 2 player opened at +1400.

    Alex Noren (+3000): Golfweek’s No. 12 player is in the group tied for 4th. He opened at +8000.

    Russell Henley (+3500): Golfweek’s No. 8 player is in the 4th-place group. He opened at +12500.

    Nicolai Hojgaard (+3500): Golfweek’s No. 99 player is tied for 4th. He opened at +10000.

    2024 Open Championship – Props update

    Before the tournament started, we mentioned a few prop bets worth considering a play on. Let’s take a look at 2 of them, plus a Tiger Woods prop.

    Collin Morikawa (+2800 to lead 1st round): Shot a 2-over 73 and is tied for 42nd.

    Aaron Rai (+6600 to lead 1st round): Also shot a 2-over 73 and is tied for 42nd.
