    New York City Council passes dress code for public school students

    NEW YORK (PIX11) — The New York City Council has voted to create a dress code for the public school system.

    More Local News

    That means for the first time ever, the city’s one million public school students will be given guidance on what to wear.

    The next step is for city council staff and the Department of Education to collaborate on crafting the dress code policy.

    The legislation requires that violations be reported and broken down by student race and gender.
