DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control has issued a consumer alert regarding THC products with packaging appealing to children.

A consumer alert was issued in Ohio by the Department of Commerce Division of Cannabis Control for Delta-8 THC products that utilize packaging similar to children’s snacks.

This comes after the FDA and FTC issued warnings to five companies to stop selling THC products in imitation packaging on July 16.

The DCC regulates cannabis products by requiring certain standards and testing in order to license the product, but Delta-8 THC products are not currently regulated by the Ohio DCC.

“The packaging of these products can make them look exactly like candy and the products themselves lack any testing requirements, so Ohio consumers, especially children, have no way of knowing exactly what they are purchasing, which is extremely dangerous,” said DCC Superintendent Jim Canepa.

The DeWine-Husted Administration has continued to call on the General Assembly for regulation of Delta-8 THC products. In January, DeWine considered a ban on the products , citing their accessibility and candy-like packaging as concerns.
