The Nassau County Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to recommend the operational lease for the Nassau Hub, including the Nassau Coliseum, is transferred to Las Vegas Sands. Sands’ proposal hit a snag in February when a state judge ruled the Planning Commission didn’t follow proper procedure, such as holding a public hearing, before transferring the lease. The vote took place moments after dozens of concerned residents and officials gathered on the steps of the Nassau County Legislature to voice their opposition to the casino. They are concerned about an increase in gambling addiction, the local environment, and public safety. A spokesperson for Sands tells News 12: “The company is pleased the planning commission approved the coliseum lease and looks forward to moving forward with a process that will provide important job security to those working at the Nassau Coliseum.” "
