More than 1,400 Black women leaders and allies told the Democratic Party in a letter on Wednesday that their support for President Joe Biden will not waver despite the crescendo of Dems calling for him to drop out. Democratic heavy-hitters like Carol Moseley Braun–the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate–Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, signed the letter. They reminded Democrats that their support is key, as Black women are the most consistent block of Democratic voters. The letter condemns calls from Dem detractors that think Biden should withdraw after his presidential debate performance and the series of gaffe-filled interviews the president’s campaign scheduled afterwards to clean up his slipping poll numbers. This week alone, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA.) became the most high-profile Democrat to ask Biden to drop out while reports surfaced that Barack Obama, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are encouraging him to bow out to preserve Democrats seats further down the ballot.
