HONOLULU (KHON2) — If you’re a teenager, it’s not too late to get that summer energy boost. There’s still time to enjoy a free summer gym membership at Planet Fitness. Wake Up 2Day’s Chris Latronic went live in Kahala to learn more and get a workout in.

Since the program began in 2019, Planet Fitness has invested more than $200 million in waived membership dues to promote youth health and wellness and improve the physical and mental health of millions of teens.

Now through Aug. 31, teens ages 14 to 19 can work out for free at Planet Fitness.

“Here at Planet Fitness, we strive to provide a comfortable environment for everybody and anybody. The first year in 2019, we started the High School Summer Pass where over 900,000 students applied and completed over 5.5 million workouts. We love to see the kids happy and love to help them out mentally and physically as they embark on their fitness journey,” said Keare Matiao Wilkerson, manager.

They also have many different workouts with experienced trainers scheduled throughout each day that are free with the High School Summer Pass. Online registration is best to secure your spot, as they fill up fast. The program has become very popular with benefits seen after the first day.

“It’s going great so far. I really like that lots of high school students have been coming out to our gym and they are really out here trying to get fit. We really wanna keep them active and it’s a great opportunity to do it during the summer while classes are pau. It’s really good for them to get engaged in physical activity where they are able to destress and stay active. Back in the day, I wish I had the opportunity as a high schooler to come to a gum you have access to and it’s free. That’s a big thing for a lot of families out there,” Micah Clemens, manager.

Chris was then put through the wringer as Keare and Micah showed him how to expertly bench press 50-pound dumbells, properly squat 100 pounds then finish off with effective abdominal workouts.

Here’s a quick checklist so you’ll have everything you need for your workout:

    • Gym Outfit: Clothing and footwear must be appropriate and safe. Closed-toed athletic footwear only.
    • Cell Phone: Download the free Planet Fitness app so you can access your digital club pass.
    • Headphones: Bring headphones or earbuds so you can turn up the volume during your workout.
    • Gym Bag: Packing light is recommended, free day-use lockers are available if needed.
    • Lock: Bring your own lock to keep your personal items safe.
    • Water Bottle: Hydration is key to a good workout.
