For maybe the first time ever, Daniel Cormier is defending long-time rival Jon Jones.

Cormier and Jones had an intense feud over the UFC light heavyweight championship. It started during interviews and continued inside the Octagon.

While Jones came out on top, Cormier was able to always take aim at him for his off-the-field issues.

Recently, though, “DC” believes Jones was pushed in regards to his latest charges.

Last March, representatives from Drug Free Sport made a stop by the home of the reigning UFC heavyweight champion. One agent filed a police report claiming Jones was aggressive towards her and a co-worker.

Jones denied the claims but was still hit with an assault charge. He also was given a misdemeanor charge of interference with communications.

Earlier this week, Jones entered a not guilty plea on both charges.

“If I’m being completely honest, I kind of thought the deal was BS,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “I feel like he was approached very early in the morning or late in the evening.

“He could have been having some drinks.”

Cormier added that “we all rush to judge Jones” because of the prior issues he has faced.

“I kind of always thought it was BS,” Cormier said. “I don’t think much is going to come of it.”

Daniel Cormier-Jon Jones Had An Intense Rivalry

During their time as opponents, Cormier and Jones went back-and-forth like heated warriors.

An interview on ESPN turned ugly between the two when much of the off-camera talk was released.

The two squared off for the first time in 2015 with Jones dealing Cormier his first career loss via decision. Two years later, they met again.

On that night, Jones won via knockout after landing a head-kick. However, the decision was overturned to a no-contest due to a failed drug test.
