For Hoosier native Dylan Windler, the start of his NBA career has not been quite what he expected.

Drafted 26 th overall out of Belmont by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019, the now 27-year-old Windler saw his young career hijacked by injuries. Following his release from Cleveland in 2023, he would spend the year bouncing around between the Knicks and Lakers and their respective G-League squads. Now, he finds himself with the Atlanta Hawks, and for the first time in several years, feels healthy.

During the Thursday edition of The Ride With JMV, Dylan hopped on the show, and spoke about the injuries that sidetracked his NBA journey.

“Definitely some unfortunate things pop up early in my professional career with the stress fracture in my tibia. That kind of popped up out of nowhere with overuse, and then having to get a surgery for that kind of led to some more issues. But I’ve been feeling great for the past year or 2 now, and I’m back to happily playing basketball. It was definitely a dark couple of years there where it wasn’t fun going to the gym every day, and just trying to play through pain, it obviously takes the joy away from the game, you’re just in pain every day trying to play and prove yourself. So yeah, I’m back and happy as ever playing the game. Like I said I don’t take it for granted anymore, because obviously at any moment something bad can happen.”
