ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– One of the the best ways to build a safer community, is to know your neighbors and your surroundings.

Tonight, July 18, Parke County held its National Night Out. This is a way to better the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement. The event gives the community and police a chance to come together under positive circumstances.

“It’s important for us to have another interaction with the community that’s not based on probably their worst day.” said Detective Sergeant Cory Hutchins. “This is an opportunity for them to come out ask questions, get answers that they may not be able to ask or just see us in a different light.”

Children who attended were also able to build relationships with community members, and get free school supplies.
