DENVER ( KDVR ) — There is fresh tension among Democrats as questions surrounding President Joe Biden’s role as the party’s nominee grow louder.

Reports came out Thursday that former President Barack Obama has told allies that President Biden needs to seriously reconsider the viability of his candidacy.

Political rhetoric will amplify as election season progresses: Analysts

Latino leaders in Colorado made it clear: They are standing behind President Biden. If he does step down, they say there is only one other person they would support at the top of the ticket.

“All Latino voters should be aware that our rights will continue to erode and our future is at great risk should Trump become president,” said Serivicos de la Raza CEO and DNC delegate Rudy Gonzales.

A coalition of leaders of the Latino community in Colorado came together to stand behind the Biden-Harris ticket, staunchly warning against the Republican ticket and the conservative policy agenda dubbed Project 2025 .

“What I can tell you is the Biden-Harris administration has made a commitment to us. And I can’t tell you enough as a person who has been to the white house, met with their administration, watched them sign an environmental justice order. For executive orders like that to exist, we will never see that under the trump administration,” said Ean Thomas Tafoya of Green Latinos Colorado and Community, Engagement and Outreach Chair for the Denver Democratic Party.

The leaders said they felt fired up and compelled to show their support after hearing some rhetoric during the RNC.

“I have been involved in every election since the 1960s. This is the absolute first time that I’ve absolutely first time that I’ve had some fears for our country should Mr. Trump be elected,” said Polly Baca, member of the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame and longtime Democratic leader. She is set to serve as delegate and elector at the DNC.

    Democrats discuss potential presidential nominees

As concerns regarding the president’s health continue to mount, FOX31 asked the leaders, including Baca, if they would support another Democrat at the top of the ticket. They said there is only one other person they would get behind.

Biden’s health offers grim counterprogramming to RNC

“There is no one else in the country, not a single elected official, not a single person that is better qualified than Kamala Harris to succeed Joe Biden should he choose not to run again. But I want Joe Biden to continue to run. I think the ticket Biden-Harris is the best ticket for our country,” Baca said.

The group is not reflective of all Latinos in the state. Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Gabe Evans in the race for Colorado’s eighth congressional district as well as Dave Williams, who lost his bid in the race for Colorado’s fifth congressional district. Both are of Latino descent.
