Here’s How Fox News Handled Airing Tucker Carlson Live for the First Time Since Firing Him

Fox News aired Tucker Carlson’s address during the final night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee without interruption on Thursday as the former network star appeared live on its airwaves for the first time since he was sacked last year.

Not only were Carlson’s comments carried in full, but Fox News host Jesse Watters acknowledged Carlson’s time atop the hill of cable news during his tenure with the company . Meanwhile, network anchor Martha MacCallum praised his comments for their tone.

While addressing the convention, Carlson touched on a wide range of topics, including the upcoming election, the issues facing the world, and former President Donald Trump’s survival of an assassination attempt last week in Pennsylvania.

Once he concluded his speech, Watters commented, “That was Tucker Carlson. You might remember him from the eight o’clock hour here.”

When addressing MacCallum and Karl Rove , Watters praised the former primetime star’s remarks.

MacCallum later said of Carlson’s speech, “I thought Tucker made a good point about the historical context” of the assassination attempt on Trump.

Both Watters and MacCallum commented that Carlson had struck a tone of optimism they agreed had been a common theme of the convention .

Carlson was fired by Fox News in April 2023.

In a statement at the time, the company said :

FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor. Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.

Fox News severed ties with Carlson during his run as the cable’s most-watched anchor. At its conclusion, Tucker Carlson Tonight was the highest-rated primetime show in all of cable news.

Carlson has since launched a show on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) while Watters took over the former host’s old time slot.
