FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Some women living in rural parts of the state will soon have better access to reproductive health education.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is providing contraceptive services and education in an effort to prevent unintended pregnancies and improve access to women’s health care.

Some counties that are eligible for the services include Sebastian, Washington and Carroll counties.

UAMS receives $1.3 million grant could lead to educational opportunities

Kelly Conroy with UAMS said the team wants to meet women where they are in the state.

“We want to serve individuals who have barriers to accessing care. So whether that is access to transportation, or if there are language or cultural barriers to accessing that type of care,” Conroy said

To make this mission a reality, UAMS will deploy mobile health units to provide contraceptives and education to women. The units will also be equipped to provide other services like testing for sexually transmitted infections.
