Wisconsin RNC delegate avoids answering questions on role in fake elector scheme

MILWAUKEE -- Pam Travis is the former treasurer of the Wisconsin Federation of Republican Women and a delegate at this week's Republican National Convention. She is also one of 10 fake electors in Wisconsin implicated in a plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Travis, as part of a settlement last year, admitted to signing a certificate of votes at the request of former President Donald Trump's campaign. That document was then used as part of an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
She and the Wisconsin fake electors admitted in the settlement that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election and agreed to never serve as an elector in an election involving Trump.
Despite her involvement in the plot, Travis has still played a prominent role as a delegate during this week's RNC. She was a speaker during the daily breakfast on Wednesday, and News 3 Now attempted to question her about her role as a fake elector following Thursday's breakfast.
However, she declined to answer our questions, responding only with the following:
"We’re looking forward to the RNC and everything happening today. That’s what we’re focused on today."
News 3 Now also asked Wisconsin GOP chair Brian Schimming about the fake electors and Travis' involvement in the RNC. He initially responded that the topic wasn't an issue for him at present but, when pressed, defended the group.
"Those people who stepped up and stepped into those roles certainly didn't feel, and the folks who organized it certainly didn't feel, that they were doing anything wrong or they wouldn’t have done it," Schimming said.
Fake electors in several other states, including Michigan, have been criminally charged for their alleged role in the plot. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is still investigating the matter in the Badger State, but did bring charges against three Trump associates last month for their alleged involvement.
Another Wisconsin fake elector, former Wisconsin Republican Part chair Andrew Hitt, told 60 Minutes earlier this year that the group was tricked by members of the Trump campaign who said they needed to fill out the alternate certificate of votes in case the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled to toss out over 200,000 votes in Milwaukee and Dane Counties.
Spokespeople for Wisconsin's Republican Party expressed discontent with the manner in which these interviews were conducted. News 3 Now apologized for the abruptness of the questioning but stands behind the reporting.
