Lima Locos 6, Hamilton Joes 1

With five games to go in the regular season, the Locos are closing in on Hamilton for first place in the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League.

Lima’s win over Hamilton (22-9) on Thursday night clinched its 13th straight playoff appearance and puts them just three games behind the Joes for the top seed.

The newly-acquired Hunter Allen (Ashland University) combined with Griffin Howe (St. Johns River State College) and Calvin Urish (Barton County Community College) to limit the Joes to one earned run on seven hits. Howe was the winning pitcher with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Locos (19-12) put all six of their runs on the board in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Brice Estep (Coastal Carolina University) got the offense going with a solo homer and Blake Bowen (University of Akron) followed with an RBI single. Bowen had two hits on the evening.

Lou Fujiwara (transfer portal) and Landon Tate (Kennesaw State University) also drove in a run.

Hamilton starter Carson French (Northern Kentucky University) was the losing pitcher after he allowed three runs on two hits in three innings.

The Locos return to Simmons Field on Friday night to continue the three-game series.

Xenia Scouts 4, Muskegon Clippers 3

Muskegon scored twice in the eighth inning but it wasn’t enough to complete a comeback victory against Xenia.

Will Lawrence (Samford University) collected two RBI in a three-run first inning and Eli Steadman (James Madison University) had a two-hit game for the Scouts.

Ryne Kaiser (Alvin Community College) was the winner after he limited Muskegon to one run in six innings and Joshua Hickey (Westmont College) picked up a four-out save.

Zach Vriesenga (Western Michigan University) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in four innings. Cole Mason (undecided) had three hits for Muskegon and Q Phillips (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee) drove in a pair of runs.

Xenia is now 16-18 on the season, while Muskegon falls to 18-13.

Michigan Monarchs 10, Grand Lake Mariners 5

Michigan struck for four runs in the first inning and never trailed in a win over last-place Grand Lake.

The Monarchs got two-hit performances from Tanner Mally (Western Michigan University), Kimo Fukofuka (transfer portal), Ty Garza (Wayne State University), Alonzo Paul (Ohio State University) and Reginald Sharpe (Michigan State University). Garza drove in three runs in the victory.

Sam Bassett Kennedy (Michigan State University) was the winning pitcher despite giving up two runs in a four-inning start.

Gibson Adema (Indiana Wesleyan University) was charged with the loss after he allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Ty Davis (Ball State University), Austyn Peak (Morehead State University) and Jackson Rains (transfer portal) had two hits each for the Mariners.

Michigan’s win makes them 14-17, while Grand Lake drops to 9-22.
