Luxury skin care brand La Mer is targeting evening skin care routines with a new night cream boasting a star ingredient.

Launching Monday, the Rejuvenating Night Cream is infused with MRA-3, a new sea-borne skin renewal complex which La Mer describes as “a retinol alternative.”

It is priced at $450 for 60ml and $230 for 30ml and will be available online and at La Mer boutiques and authorized retailers beginning Aug. 1 in Asia and globally Sept. 1.

MRA-3 is a concentrated trio of marine-based ingredients, composed of a dual extraction from the seashore plant sea fennel blended with potent brown algae. The brand claimed that together they can deliver antiaging effects without the compromise of irritation and adjustment period associated with retinol.

The new ingredient is combined with the brand’s signature Miracle Broth.

“La Mer’s scientists have been studying Miracle Broth for over 25 years and most recently, its powerful effects on optimizing skin’s renewal process at night. This breakthrough research led La Mer to create the new Rejuvenating Night Cream, which introduces the marine-plant-powered active MRA-3, to complement Miracle Broth and turbocharge skin’s repair mode at night,” said La Mer brand president Sandra Main.

“The new formula takes a comprehensive approach to the luxury consumer’s evening skin routine — including a new ‘pillow proof’ texture and delivery system which allows for fast skin absorption, resulting in La Mer’s signature high performance,” she added.

La Mer, which has been part of the Lauder family of brands since the ’90s, has been a bright spot in its struggling parent company’s portfolio.

In Lauder’s most recent quarterly earnings released in May, Fabrizio Freda, president and chief executive officer, highlighted it as one of the best performing brands.

Net sales from La Mer rose strong double digits globally, driven by double-digit growth in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific, benefiting from continued strength from hero products, including The Treatment Lotion and Crème de la Mer.

La Mer Crème de La Mer face cream, $380, and La Mer The Concentrate, $440, both featured in the WWD Beauty Inc 2024 100 Greatest Skin Care Products of All Time list.

In April, La Mer tapped Taiwanese singer Jay Chou, referred to by fans as the “King of Mandopop,” as its latest ambassador .
