NEW YORK (PIX11) — They are playing the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon.

It is the final major of the 2024 calendar season. Tiger Woods is in danger of missing the cut after shooting eight over in his opening round earlier Thursday.

Earlier this week, former golfer Colin Montgomerie suggested that Woods should retire. Wood responded, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60, he’s not.

    A little burn.

He is 48 years old, he is arguably the greatest golfer of all-time. He has won 82 official PGA tour events and 15 majors. At his peak, he was the most dominant force in sports.

In February of 2021, he rolled his car in a crash in Los Angeles, which shattered his tibia and fibula in his right leg. Miraculously, he is even on a golf course.

Will Woods ever win another major in his career? Probably not.

Will he ever win an event, who knows.

I do know this: Tiger Woods has a competitive spirit to taste victory once again. He led a renaissance for his sport.

He helped make golf popular and cool and also changed the way golfers take care of themselves. More focused on physical fitness and the debate of whether golf is a sport no longer plays.

I bring all of this up because Tiger Woods should decide when it is his time to call it a career.

If he thinks he can still and wants to compete, he should. He has earned that right. It is tough watching Tiger now compared to what he once was, no doubt. I will never see a better golfer than Tiger Woods. Unfortunately, that player is long gone.

Until next time, New York, I’m Marc Malusis.
