I'm a Modest Dresser—Here Are the Standout Pieces I've Seen This Month

    By Humaa Hussain,

Having worked in fashion for just under a decade, my friends are constantly asking for advice about everything from where to find the best blazers to how to style a maxi dress without looking frumpy. I get texts and DMs almost weekly, and I love sharing my tips and tricks.

But as a modest dresser, I've seen trends come and go, and I know how tricky it can be to maintain a personal style that stays true to modest-dressing principles. It's for this reason that one of my best bits of fashion advice is to always look for versatile pieces that can be easily dressed up or down, and don't shy away from layering—it's the secret weapon of modest fashion.

Lately, I've noticed a welcome shift towards more inclusive pieces on the runways and in stores. Notable brands like Arket and COS have embraced relaxed fits and chic layers, making modest fashion a celebrated style choice, not an afterthought. This season, I'm especially excited about summer-to-autumn transitional pieces that offer style and comfort throughout weather fluctuations. From flowy dresses that work with sandals now and boots later to oversized jackets perfect for layering, there are so many options to keep your wardrobe fresh when you're covering up.

Below are my top picks from this month's new drops, so scroll through to find your new favourite clothes for staying chic and modest.

Shop My Favourite Modest Pieces This Month:

    COS

    Utility A-Line Maxi Skirt

    £110

A maxi skirt is a great addition to any capsule wardrobe, modest or not. The structured yet flowy design works well with a tucked-in blouse or a simple tee. Add a belt to accentuate your waist and complete the look with ankle boots.

    The Frankie Shop

    Gelso Oversized Blazer

    £350

A good blazer is a tried-and-true staple, and this oversized option from The Frankie Shop ticks all the boxes. Its roomy fit allows for layering over long-sleeved tops, instantly elevating any outfit. Wear it with tailored trousers for a polished look or jeans for a casual vibe.

    Arket

    Relaxed T-Shirt Dress

    £47

This T-shirt dress is an easy go-to for everyday wear. The longline cut and loose fit offer full coverage, and it's available in multiple colours. Style it with a pair of loafers and a statement bag for an effortlessly chic look.

    TOTEME

Embroidered Organic Cotton and Silk-Blend Shirt

    £390

Investing in high-quality pieces like this silk button-down and trouser co-ord from Toteme is always a good idea. The luxurious fabric makes the shirt perfect for layering and provides comfort and style in bucketloads. Wear it over a midi dress or with the matching wide-leg trousers for a relaxed yet polished ensemble.

    TOTEME

Embroidered Organic Cotton and Silk-Blend Wide-Leg Pants

    £350

The loose-fitting trousers add a touch of elegance to any outfit. The flowing silhouette is perfect for evening events or a sophisticated daytime look. Just add an oversized black T-shirt for a monochrome look.

    TOTEME

    Printed Cotton and Silk-Blend Scarf

    £170

My sister wears a Hijab (headscarf) and she loves that the Toteme silk squares are big enough to provide all the coverage she needs. Let's just say she's "borrowed" the above Toteme co-ord from me a few times to match with her scarf.

    COS

    Wide-Leg Tailored Wool Trousers

    £115

These wide-leg trousers from COS are both comfortable and stylish. The oversized fit is in keeping in with my modest lifestyle, and they pair beautifully with button-downs or knitwear. Perfect for both work and weekends.

    Arket

    Relaxed Cotton Shirt

    £77

A simple yet elegant option, this classic striped button-down is ideal for layering. Its relaxed fit and high neckline make it a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

    Reformation

    Lucy Skirt

    £198

This white, pleated maxi from Reformation has amassed a cult following. Not only is it now a key piece loved by editors everywhere, but it doesn’t compromise on modesty. The full-length, roomy cut gives coverage in a fresh, modern way. I'd wear a looser tee and add minimal jewellery and a pair of low heels to let the skirt stand out.

    Elise Fayre

    Green Cotton Poplin Tiered Dress

    £80£32

Elise Fayre offers a fantastic range of modest options, and this tiered maxi dress is a standout. Its classic silhouette and comfortable fit make it a great choice for everyday wear. Style it with flats and a crossbody bag for a complete look.

    COS

    24/7 T-Shirt in Blue

    £19

An oversized T-shirt is a timeless addition to any wardrobe, and this one from COS is no exception. With its slouchy fit and loose sleeves, it makes the perfect foundation piece for any modest look. I find navy really upgrades a simple outfit instead of black.

    AGOLDE

    Low Slung Baggy Jeans

    £300

Just because the weather is getting warmer, doesn't mean I'll discard my denim. The loose silhouette and extra-long length of this Agolde pair make for the ideal summer jeans.

    COS

    Belted Utility Boilersuit

    £115£55

The relaxed fit and mid-length sleeve make this boilersuit a great option for modest dressing. Wear it with trainers for a casual look or dress it up with heels and a belt.

    H&M

    Linen-Blend Shirt

    £28

Summer is the season for linen, and I feel a little embarrassed to admit that I own way, way too many iterations of this classic button-down. It's just such a versatile piece to wear buttoned up on its own or open over a white tank.

    H&M

    Wide Linen-Blend Trousers

    £28

I especially love the extra-long length of these linen trousers; they would look so cute slightly covering some Birkenstock Boston clogs.
