As teams across Beaver County begin to ramp up their summer workout programs this past week, that can only mean one thing and that is that the high school football season is just around the corner with many teams across the area kicking off their respective seasons on Aug. 23 with Week 0 play.
With the season just about a month away, there are several major storylines across The Times’ coverage area from new head coaches, classification realignments and much more.
One of the biggest storylines heading into the 2024 high school football season has been the classification realignments for the 2024-25 seasons.
While most of the county remained the same in its classifications, two notable teams made moves to different classifications ahead of this season.
Central Valley will drop back down to class 3A after spending the past two seasons in WPIAL Class 4A. The Warriors will join the Western Hills conference and will match up against Avonworth, Beaver, Hopewell, McGuffey, North Catholic and Quaker Valley.
Central Valley has found success in Class 3A over the years, capturing three straight WPIAL titles through the 2019-21 seasons respectively. The Warriors also brought home the PIAA Class 3A championship during the 2020 season, defeating Wyomissing 7-0.
Along with Central Valley, Aliquippa has also been amid a potential classification realignment. The school district has been battling with the PIAA throughout the offseason on whether the Quips football program will be competing in Class 5A or if the team will remain in Class 4A where it has been for the past several seasons.
