(Dog of The Week is a regular feature by the Beaver County Humane Society seeking forever homes for adoptable dogs.)

Hi, I’m Pixie. You may know me as Mother Nature (my previous name). I came to the shelter as a new mama, but now my puppies have all been adopted. I figure this name fits me even more.

I am a 3-year-old German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix. I weigh 62 pounds and have been at the shelter since June.

For those who don’t know my story, I was rescued from not-so-great living conditions. When the people found me, they quickly realized that I had recently had puppies, but my babies were nowhere to be found. I was so upset they were gone that I dug up the floor to find them. It was a horrible time for me, and I was elated when they were brought back to me, safe and sound, at the shelter. It was probably the best moment in my whole life.

My puppies have grown, and I am proud to say they have all found their forever homes. Now it's my turn. I'm ready to find my forever home, too!

I would love a family who will spend a lot of time with me. The shelter staff do not know if I would be good with kids or with other dogs, but I would be willing to meet them to try it out.

Here is what a staff member has to say about me:

“She has numerous Shepherd traits. Knock on the door and she will bark. Sitting at your computer, she will lay on the couch, with her eyes closed as if sleeping, but the second you get up, she is right by your side. She is housebroken and loves to go on leisurely walks through the trails. After being such a great mom to six babies, she deserves a loving home where she is the princess now.”
