The Youth Building at the Crawford County Fairgrounds was bustling with activity Thursday morning as 250 senior citizens attended the Glitz and Glamour Senior Day.

The event was sponsored by the Crawford County Council on Aging.

“We paid the entry fee for 250 of our local senior citizens to attend this event,” said Cassie Herschler, executive director of the Council on Aging.

Shirley and Bob Coldwell of rural Bucyrus have been coming to the Senior Citizens Day event on and off for several years.

“It is something fun to do. It gets you out of the house and you get to meet new people,” said Bob Coldwell as he enjoyed a donut and a cup of coffee.

The donuts were donated for the event by CenterWell Home Health and Gentiva Hospice.

Toni Lind worked hard on the gorgeous purple hat she was sporting as she made her way around the large building to check out the vendors and activities that were available.

“My sister and I made this hat for a church event, but I changed things added some to make it special for today,” said Lind who entered the Fancy Hat Contest.

Courtney Moody, who is in charge of activities for the Council on Aging, said this year’s event is extra special.

It's party time for Crawford County senior citizens

“It is the 50th anniversary of the Crawford County Council on Aging, so we went all out for this year’s senior day,” said Moody.

Kris Keesee and Nancy Findling made their way to the event from Galion and said it was fun to pose for photos in a free photo booth that was sponsored by Park National Bank, JAG Healthcare and United Health Care.

“We used to bring our moms to this event every year and just kept coming because it is so much fun,” said Keesee.

Former Bucyrus Council Clerks Regina Zornes and Sharon Hildreth attended the event.

“It is a lot of fun, and you get to see so many people. It’s a great social event,” Hildreth said.

Sandy Massie came from the Galion area to celebrate her birthday with her cousin, Norma Burgin of Bucyrus.

“It is a lot of fun,” Burgin said.

    Danny Rensch of Bucyrus agrees.

“I come for all of the activities. It’s a fun time and it is nice to see everyone,” Rensch said.
