Liverpool is preparing to resolve Trent Alexander-Arnold's future by holding talks between the player and new manager Arne Slot once he returns to pre-season training next month.

The Reds defender has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield and the club are keen to tie him down to a new deal amid reports that La Liga giants Real Madrid are interested in securing his services this summer.

However, Alexander-Arnold is currently on an extended period of leave following his involvement in England's run to the Euro 2024 final on Sunday and is not expected to return to the AXA Training Centre until the start of August . Regardless, Slot is keen to put to rest any rumors of an exit for the 25-year-old this summer by holding conversations regarding his position in the team and leadership group.

That's according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who told GIVEMESPORT that Alexander-Arnold will 'hold talks' with Slot. The Reds boss has reportedly already decided on where he will play and will share more details about his role after they have spoken face-to-face.

It comes amid reported interest from Real Madrid as Alexander-Arnold's contract runs down, with the academy graduate at risk of leaving on a free transfer next summer if Liverpool can't agree on new terms with the defender. That scenario has led to suggestions the Reds could even sell this summer in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

But that scenario appears very unlikely to come to fruition, even if there is genuine interest from Los Blancos. It's feared that Alexander-Arnold's bromance with England teammate Jude Bellingham could work in the Spanish club's favor, although it's claimed it is not actively pursuing a deal as things stand.

Granted, links to other clubs aren't particularly anything new for Alexander-Arnold but Liverpool fans will be desperate to see any exit rumors put to bed with a new contract for the right-back signed, sealed and delivered. Until the Scouser has returned to pre-season training, however, it is set to be a nervous wait.
