Manchester United have reportedly made progress in their bid to bring Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford.

It has already been a busy summer for United, who kicked off their transfer business with the £36.5million signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

They then moved quickly to beat Real Madrid to the signature of 18-year-old Leny Yoro , sealing a £52m deal to secure the centre-back and bolster their options in defence.

Erik ten Hag is still keen to strengthen the squad further and PSG midfielder Ugarte, represented by the same agent as Yoro in Jorge Mendes, appears to be the next major target.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old, who was a regular in the Uruguay starting lineup at this summer’s Copa America.

It’s claimed that Ugarte is keen to make the move to Old Trafford, even though the club cannot afford Champions League football this season, and United are now in talks with PSG over a fee.

Previous reports have suggested PSG would be open to selling for around £50m, as they look to make room in the squad for a big-money for Benfica star Joao Neves.

United are determined to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer, after that area of the pitch proved a real issues during last season’s struggles.

Casemiro struggled for form throughout the campaign and it remains to be seen whether he will still be at the club by the end of the window, while a decision has not yet been made on whether to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal after his loan spell.
