Prince George will own major British party town one day due to strict royal rule

Prince George is not only in line to become the future King of England, but according to a lesser-known royal rule he is also set to inherit a private estate that has become synonymous with sustainability – with a penchant for partying too.

Step forward The Duchy Estate, covering an incredible 135,000 acres of land across 20 counties located mostly in the South West of England . Comprising arable and livestock farms, and residential and commercial properties, alongside forests, rivers, quarries, and coastline, the private estate was established by Edward III in 1337 to provide independence to his son and heir, Prince Edward.

A charter ruled that each future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest surviving son of the British Monarch and heir to the throne. This means that William has taken over from his father in managing and maintaining the estate in a sustainable, financially viable way, while, according to duchyofcornwall.org , offering ‘meaningful value to the local community.”

When he was still The Prince of Wales, King Charles worked with the Duchy of Cornwall for many years, but those responsibilities have now been passed on to Prince William following his assumption of the Prince of Wales title. King Charles has long been training his eldest son for his new role as The Prince of Wales and what his role within the Duchy of Cornwall estate will involve.

However, in years to come, Prince George will take over the job from his father and inherit the estate. When asked about his plans for the estate in an ITV documentary in 2019, Prince William said: "I've started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do with it. I think it's really important, about the family angle, I really do.”

Speaking in reaction to Prince William's comments, King Charles said: "When I saw it, I couldn't believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears." The Duchy of Cornwall extends across 23 counties in England and Wales.

While the most famous estate is perhaps the Poundbury Estate in Dorset, another of its estates – the Cornish Nansledan Estate – is housed in an area renowned for partying. Set in Newquay, on the north coast of Cornwall, it’s housed within one of the UK’s most popular seaside resorts.

According to the Duchy’s website, during the summer months, the resident population of 22,000 grows to 100,000, with the town constantly ranked as one of the UK’s top destinations for stag dos and hen parties.
