Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski made a point to correct co-host Joe Scarborough that third-party cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike was to blame for worldwide IT outages as he began ranting against Microsoft’s “monopoly” on technology.

As co-host Willie Geist detailed the impact the issue was having on airlines and banks, as well as MSNBC’s broadcast operations, Scarborough interrupted to

I love the language ‘affected a subset of our customers.’ People just north of Cooperstown, New York. No, no, no, it’s impacting the entire world. Not to get too far into it, Willie. This is what happens when you have companies like Microsoft that many people consider to be a monopoly. If something goes down with Microsoft software, just about everybody is impacted and just about everything as far as commerce goes seems to be shut down.

Scarborough continued to joke that the producers would now have an excuse for any future issues and could blame the “Microsoft outage” for any operational gaffes.

Brzezinski, however, drowned out by Scarborough, corrected him and was keen to move on: “It’s Crowdstrike – ok.”

The outage paralyzes businesses and institutions worldwide, affecting sectors from healthcare to transportation. News organizations, including Sky News, experienced a brief blackout as the ripple effect extended globally, with banks, supermarkets, and major institutions reporting computer disruptions.

Some airlines warned of delays, and certain airports were forced to ground flights. This unprecedented digital disruption underscores the vulnerability of modern infrastructure to technological failures.

CrowdStrike president George Kurtz took to X to say that the issue had been identified and a fix was now being prepared.

CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.

We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.

    Watch on MSNBC.
