Aston Villa have welcomed back winger Jaden Philogene from Hull City after an impressive season with the Tigers.

Philogene, 22, returns to Villa Park, becoming the club's seventh signing of the summer, following Ian Maatsen, Enzo Barrenechea, Samuel Iling-Junior, Ross Barkley, Lewis Dobbin, and Cameron Archer.

Born in 2002, in London, Philogene began his football journey with Villa in 2018, rising through the academy ranks.

He made his Premier League debut at 19, under Dean Smith, in a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021. Over time, he featured in three top-flight matches and six games across all competitions for Villa.

Philogene had loan spells with Stoke City and Cardiff City before an eye-catching pre-season tour in the USA with Villa in 2023.

Despite appearing just once in the league, he moved to Hull City in September 2023. During his season with the Tigers, he scored 12 goals and provided six assists, becoming one of the Championship’s standout performers. His season highlights included an extraordinary "rabona" goal against Rotherham.

Now back at Aston Villa, Philogene expressed his excitement, telling the Villa media team:

“It feels amazing, it’s like I’m back at home. Unai [Emery] spoke to me face-to-face and we had a very good conversation about my playing time. He said I did well when I was here in preseason last year and that I’m going to get chances this time. It also depends on me and how I play."

Philogene's return to Villa marks a significant step in his career. He aims to replicate his Hull City success and make a lasting impression at Villa Park. With three goals in four caps for England Under-21s, he is poised to make his mark.

Aston Villa’s next pre-season match is against Spartak Trnava on July 20, with their Premier League campaign kicking off at West Ham United on August 17.
