A 158-player field is at Royal Troon in Scotland this weekend competing for the final major championship of the year: T he Open Championship , more commonly known as the British Open. Four rounds will decide who wins the claret jug - the oldest trophy in golf - this year.

But only the top 70 players and ties will make the cut on Friday. It's a larger field than in the U.S. Open (top 60 players and ties) and the Masters (top 50).

The last few years have seen a low cut line at the British Open. It was 3-over in 2023, par in 2022, and 1-over in 2021. That's lower than the last British Open at Royal Troon in 2016 that saw a cut line of 4-over.

After the first round on Thursday, 81 players were at 3 over or better for the projected cut line. That projection's moved around multiple times in round two at Royal Troon.

Will Tiger Woods make the British Open cut?

No. Entering the day at 8-over par, Tiger Woods shot a 6-over par Friday in the second round to finish 14-over par after two rounds. He will miss the cut.
