    ACOG: Central Oklahoma under Ozone Alert

    OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) has announced that Friday, July 19, will be an Ozone Alert Day.

    According to ACOG, this Ozone Alert was decided in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) based on air quality and meteorological data. The ODEQ has predicted that Friday’s conditions in Central Oklahoma may include ground-level ozone air pollution.

    Officials say the main component of smog is ground-level ozone and may be a health risk to all Central Oklahomans, but especially for:

    • Children
    • Seniors
    • Individuals with Respiratory Diseases
    • Individuals with Cardiovascular Disease
    • Individuals with Asthma, Diabetes and Emphysema

    ACOG says there are things residents can do on an Ozone Alert Day:

    • Work remotely if possible, reduce gasoline/diesel vehicle trips, avoid idling
    • Purchasing an appliance soon? Look for the ENERGY STAR label
    • Tell someone its an ozone alert day
