• July 19-20 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
• July 20 Downtown Growers’ Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park.
• July 20 Sci-Fi Family Day – In honor of the Apollo 11 landing anniversary, enjoy family-friendly hands-on activities with this event that is included in your admission fee to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.
• July 20 Route 66 Summerfest – The Family Stone will be headlining the annual event in Nob Hill. The free event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Central Ave. from Girard Blvd. to Washington St.
• July 20 Sandia Slammers vs. Bosque Bruisers – This match put on by Albuquerque Roller Derby begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Manuel Lujan Jr. Exhibit Complex at Expo New Mexico.
• July 20-21 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.
• July 20-21 Lavender Festival Sale – The annual sale put on by Copper Bell Antiques will take place at 4646 Los Poblanos Cir NW.
• July 21 Watermelon Day at the Rail Yards Market ABQ – The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. at 777 1st St. SW.
• July 24 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• July 24 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back at the Lobo Theater – Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and movie begins at 7:00 p.m.

New Mexico

• July 19 Friday Night Magic – Come sling some spells at Zia Comics in Las Cruces from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• July 19 Free Backpacks & Haircuts for kids K-12 – This event at Roswell High School will get kids ready for the new school year and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• July 19 Community Dance in Kirtland Park – The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Kirtland, NM.
• July 19-21 Las Fiestas De Taos – The event at Kit Carson Memorial Park celebrates the Feast of St. Anne and St. James and features live music, food, and more.
• July 20 2024 Market Season-Saturdays – The Seasonal Farmers Market in Alamogordo begins at 10:00 a.m.
• July 20 Pet Adoption – Find your new reading buddy at this event put on by the Roswell Public Library from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Roswell.
• July 20 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
• July 20 Open Space-Time – Expand your creative dimensions in the Rainbow Rainbow room at Meow Wolf Santa Fe. The event begins at noon and is open to all, no ticket or RSVP is required but is first-come first-served.
• July 21 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages at 1:00 p.m.
• July 23 Swing on the Plaza – This all-ages, free event begins with a free swing dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. on the Plaza De Las Cruces, followed by an open dance at 8:00 p.m.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.

🔶 City of Albuquerque providing food, clothes for families in need – The City of Albuquerque has several resources available for families who may need assistance with food and clothes during the summer. Resources include summer youth programs, clothing banks, and food assistance.

🔶 Second mosquito season hits Albuquerque – The number of mosquitos the city will see in its second wave of the year is closely tied to the severity of the monsoon season. Their prediction was that around two weeks after the rain, the mosquito sightings would increase and Environmental Health Manager with the Urban Biology Division Nick Pederson can confirm that was the case.

🔶 AFR adding NE Heights paramedic unit – The department is trying out a new paramedic unit that will respond to lower-risk emergency calls. Lieutenant Fejer says Medic 9 will cover calls related to substance abuse and mental health. It will be housed at Station 9 near Eubank and Menaul and focus on responding to calls across the Northeast Heights.

🔶 Summer program helps Albuquerque students prepare for next school year – Horizons Albuquerque is helping under-resourced students in grades 1 through 11 with the goal of advancing educational equity. Students not only focus on academics, but also learn skills like guitar playing, robotics, and how to swim.

🔶 Bernalillo County offering free movie nights at local community centers – The free movie nights will include family-friendly films like 101 Dalmatians and Wonka. The movies will be shown on weekends starting at sundown. Gates open at 7:00 p.m., and moviegoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks.

🔶 City of Albuquerque looking for volunteers to help monitor trails – Trail Watch volunteers work under the Open Space Division and report wildlife and visitor activities, maintenance needs, suspicious activity, and other information. Training and a background check are required to become a Trail Watch Volunteer.

🔶 Free summer lunch program returns in Bernalillo County – Beginning June 3, free lunch will be served daily to children at different locations around Bernalillo County. Children must be between the ages of 1 to 18 years old to receive a meal. Meals must be consumed at the meal site (except for non-congregate sites), all meals are first come, first served, and participants must receive the entire meal.

🔶 Explora hosting Mosaic of Marks, Words, and Material exhibition – The exhibition runs from May 15 – August 16. The exhibit will include an art studio where young visitors, their families, and educators can explore hands-on mark-making materials.

🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

New Mexico Notices

🔶 Free summer food service program for children resumes in New Mexico – The Early Childhood Education and Care Department in New Mexico has begun its free food service for children ages 1-18. The service aims to provide free meals to children during summer break. The department said more than 600 locations in the state are providing free meals through August.

🔶 NM Corrections Department debuts ‘Be Pro, Be Proud’ workshop – The “Be Pro, Be Proud,” mobile workshop has helped students learn about in-demand careers, but this time it’s headed to Albuquerque to teach inmates instead. The mobile workshop uses hands-on simulators and virtual reality experiences to imitate on-the-job experiences. Inmates have the opportunity to explore a variety of trade industries including welding, carpentry, robotics, and transportation.

🔶 Special session focused on public safety in New Mexico begins on Thursday – While the governor has faced pushback from her own party, she was surrounded in a news conference on Wednesday afternoon by officials who are in support of the session. The session will focus on changes to the criminal code including penalties for felons with guns, making it illegal to stand on medians in busy streets, and changes to the judicial system in terms of criminal competency and commitment.

🔶 Taos County Commissioners postpone decision on development project – Community members spoke opposing a 331-acre subdivision development project just a few miles north of Taos and across from Taos Pueblo on the Tarleton Ranch property. Commissioners postponed the decision until August 6.

🔶 Santa Fe mayor speaks out against SCOTUS homeless ruling – Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber says the SCOTUS decision from two weeks ago not only fails to address the root causes of homelessness but “perpetuates a cycle of instability and marginalization for some of our most vulnerable citizens.”

🔶 Damage to Taos fire hydrants causes 270K gallons of water loss – About 270,000 gallons of water in Taos went to waste after several fire hydrants were opened and damaged earlier this week. The Taos Fire Department is now asking the community to come forward with information about whoever is responsible.

🔶 Bureau of Indian Affairs provides update on investigation into South Fork Fire – The South Fork Fire was determined to be caused by lightning sometime prior to the fire’s detection on June 17. BIA said officials are still in the investigation phase and are working on compiling the investigation report.

🔶 Santa Fe National Forest issues partial camping closure order to ‘prevent further resource damage’ – The forest said the closure is needed to “prevent further resource damage caused by an increase in unauthorized long-term camping, vandalism, and trash dumping.” The order went into effect on June 21, 2024, and will expire on Dec. 31, 2025, unless rescinded.

🔶 Rail Runner offering free rides for students – Students ages 17 and under will be able to ride the Rail Runner Express for free starting June 1. The promotion will run through July 31.

🔶 Santa Fe hosts ‘Summer Fire Truck Spray Down’ events for kids – The City of Santa Fe Community Engagement Department and Santa Fe Fire Department are providing a free way for kids to cool down this summer. The departments host “Summer Fire Truck Spray Down” events at Swan Park.
