SMITHFIELD — The Johnston County Board of Education on July 9 named an interim principal for West Clayton Elementary School.

She is Sarah Willoughby, most recently an assistant principal at the K-5 school.

An educator for 21 years, Willoughby started her career as a teacher at B.F. Grady Elementary School in Duplin County. Two years later, she joined the Wayne County Public Schools, teaching at Carver and Rosewood elementary schools.

Willoughby has also been a curriculum coach. In 2015, she earned her master’s degree in school administration from East Carolina University, where she also received her bachelor’s degree.

Willoughby and her husband, Jason, live near Princeton with their four children.

Also on July 9, the school board named two assistant principals — Amanda Robin at Clayton High School and Megan Barnes at Four Oaks Elementary.

Finally, the board announced the transfer of assistant principal Arlene Wright to Glendale-Kenly Elementary School from the district’s virtual academy.
