Another heat wave is set to arrive in Southern California Friday, again driving temperatures into the triple-digits in the most heat-prone areas, possibly stretching well into next week.

"A significant heat wave will impact Southern California Friday into next week," according to the National Weather Service. "A large portion of the mountains, foothills, and valleys away from the coast will experience dangerously hot conditions, and very warm conditions may extend toward the coast. ... Monsoonal moisture will potentially bring thunderstorms to the interior mountains and valleys each afternoon into next week."

An excessive heat warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Wednesday in the Santa Clarita Valley, Calabasas, the Western San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Mountains, the Antelope Valley and Antelope Valley foothills and the 5 and 14 Freeway corridors.

Forecasters said the affected areas could see temperatures ranging from 95 to 112 each day, with overnight lows dropping only into the 70s. The heat will affect "a large portion of the Southern California mountains, foothills, valleys away from the coast and the Santa Ynez range."

"There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone, especially for the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors," according to the NWS.

A less severe heat advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Sunday in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, with temperatures of up to 103 degrees possible. It will be replaced by an excessive heat watch beginning Sunday morning and continuing through Wednesday morning, when temperatures could reach as high as 110 degrees.

The San Gabriel Valley and eastern San Fernando Valley will be under a heat advisory from 10 a.m. Friday through 9 p.m. Saturday, with heat flirting with triple-digits, according to the NWS.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," forecasters warned. "Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."

Forecasters noted that temperatures on Thursday were already about 5 to 7 degrees higher than they were Wednesday.

"While not quite as hot as the last heat wave, temperatures will increase several degrees each day," according to the NWS.

Forecasters said the hot conditions "will continue through at least Wednesday, at least for the interior mountains and far interior areas."
