    Good morning!

In an already tumultuous presidential election cycle, the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has thrown the race into even more turmoil.

His campaign rally in Butler, Pa. — which was more or less routine — turned into breaking news when a gunman opened fire, killing one person and injuring three, including Trump. This preceded the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which started on Monday and ended yesterday. He was officially named the Republican Party nominee for president on Monday for the third election in a row. He announced his running mate, United States Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, after days of speculation over who he might choose. And that was all before Tuesday.

All of this has changed the dynamics of a closely watched presidential race. On the Democratic side, calls for President Joe Biden to exit the race have ramped up considerably, but those on his team repeatedly insist he won't drop out .

The Michigan GOP faced internal turmoil this past year , but it has, like Republicans across the country, presented a united front in support of Trump. As Clara Hendrickson — who was live from Milwaukee — reports, Michigan's Republican delegation was front and center during the convention .

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at an event near Kalamazoo on Wednesday, but the Biden campaign won't be the only one to visit Michigan this week. Tomorrow, Michiganders and the country will see the first showing of the Trump-Vance ticket at a rally in Grand Rapids.
