A global technology outage that has affected airlines, banks, healthcare and public transit has also disrupted county offices and services in the Southern Tier.

Broome County officials announced Friday morning all county offices will be closed to the public until further notice. Employees will still report to work.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office and the Broome County Correctional Facility will be closed to the public as well due to the outage.

Deputies, corrections officers and civilian staff will continue working in the meantime.

Residents can check the county website, gobroomecounty.com, for updates.

In Chemung County, where Crowdstrike is the county's network monitoring software, several county offices delayed opening while the information and technology department addressed computer issues related to the mass outage.

Anyone who had an appointment at a county office is urged to call that agency prior to the appointment, or call the county executive's office with any questions at 607-737-2912.

Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike said one of its recent content updates had a defect that impacted Microsoft's Windows Operating System, adding that the incident was "not a security incident or cyberattack."

Microsoft, meanwhile, said "the underlying cause has been fixed," but that residual impacts continue to affect some of its Microsoft 365 apps and services.

BGM, ELM flights impacted by tech outage

A morning Delta flight scheduled to depart from Greater Binghamton Airport for Detroit was canceled Friday morning. An evening Delta flight is scheduled to arrive in Binghamton from Detroit on schedule at 8:21 p.m.

Allegiant's flight from Orlando Sanford International Airport, scheduled to arrive at Elmira Corning Regional Airport just after 9 a.m. was delayed and Allegiant flight 1242, scheduled to fly to Orlando Sanford International Airport from Elmira has consequently been delayed as well.

    This report may be updated.
