NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest On Cardinals’ Marvin Harrison Jr.

As we get set for the 2024 season, could Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. have expectations that are impossible to reach?

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the first non-quarterback taken was Harrison from Ohio State.

Talent-wise, Harrison might have been the first or second-best player in the draft with Caleb Williams, but due to bad teams needing quarterbacks, he fell to the Cardinals with the fourth overall pick.

At Ohio State, Harrison was one of the best wide receivers in the country despite shaky quarterback play at the time.

Harrison played three seasons for Ohio State, with him being a focal point of the offense in 2022 and 2023. Last season, he totaled 67 receptions, 1,211 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.

Harrison looks like the type of talent who is going to come into the league and have an immediate impact. However, Fantasy Football owners may have some unrealistic expectations for him heading into 2024.

Andy Hicks of the FootballGuys.com recently spoke about what Harrison’s rookie season might look like.

Here’s what he had to say.

“The positioning of Harrison suggests that he is being taken at an almost impossible-to-achieve landing spot for a rookie,” Hicks said. “Of course, he could land in the top 10 fantasy receivers, but it doesn’t take much to go wrong for a wide receiver to go from top 12 to outside the top 30 fantasy receivers. Everything has to go right in his debut season to achieve this draft spot. Take the guys who have better situations and odds of achieving these outcomes.”

The future is bright for Marvin Harrison Jr.

In a league with a ton of good wide receivers, Harrison being selected in the top 10 at his position does seem to be a bit high. While he very well could win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, that might not even warrant him producing enough fantasy points to warrant being a top-15 pick in some leagues.

The Cardinals are coming off of a strange season where Kyler Murray missed a good chunk of time. We have seen Murray’s ability to be a good quarterback in the past, but there are certainly some questions regarding whether or not he will be the guy long-term in Arizona.

There is little doubt that Marvin Harrison Jr. will be a great player in the league, but for Fantasy Football purposes this season, he might be a bit overrated.
