“She’s kind and generous, and she’s an incredible mother and just a wonderful human being,” Connick said of his friend and former co-star, in a recent interview with Decider. “So if I ever had a chance to work with her, on a sequel to Hope Floats or otherwise, I would jump at it.”

Connick, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Emmy-winning actor, is currently out promoting his new Netflix movie, Find Me Falling , which began streaming today. After seeing an interview with People where Connick said he was still in touch with Bullock over two decades later, Decider had to ask if the pair had ever discussed a sequel to their 1998 country romance, Hope Floats.

“I have never talked about it with Sandy,” Connick replied. “I love her very much. She’s a really dear friend, and we’ve known her for a long time now. She’s an extraordinary woman. I haven’t really thought about it, but if she ever said, ‘Hey, would you like to do something like that?’ I’ll go wherever she calls, because she’s that great!”

Directed by Forest Whitaker, with a script by Steven Rogers, Hope Floats stars Bullock as a stay-at-home mom who founds out via daytime talk show reveal that her husband is having an affair with her best friend. Sandy decides to move back to her small, rural hometown in Texas, where she reconnects with an old classmate, played by Connick. It was Connick’s first leading role, and, he told Decider, Bullock couldn’t have made it a better experience for him.

“You ever wonder what people are like in person?” Connick, who is now 56, said. “I met Glen Powell today, right? Never met the guy before—sweetest guy you’ve ever met. Just the nicest guy. Which is such a nice feeling, because I’m a fan. Sandra Bullock is that. She’s exactly what you would hope.”
