VOTE NOW: Where is Monroe County's top spot for ice cream?

MONROE COUNTY — According to the International Dairy Foods Association , ice cream, in one form or another, dates back to the second century — B.C! That's a cool fact, eh (pun intended)?

Alexander the Great was known to enjoy honey-and-nectar flavored snow and ice, and Biblical references point to King Solomon having a fondness for iced drinks as well. A thousand years ago, Marco Polo returned to Italy from the Far East with a recipe that closely resembled sherbet, and merchant records show that George Washington spent nearly $200 on ice cream in the summer of 1790 (that's like $6,830 in today's money). Another founding father, Thomas Jefferson, had an 18-step recipe for an ice cream dessert that looks a lot like the modern-day Baked Alaska.

It's clear, the list of 'I scream, you scream... we all scream for ice cream," fans is far-reaching and goes way back in history.

In more recent history, yesterday, in fact, we enlightened you to the fact that July 21 is National Ice Cream Day — you're welcome for that, by the way. Today, not that we need a particular reason to enjoy these creamy-cool treats during the summer, we have a question for each of you — where is the best spot to get a cone, dip, sundae, parfait, whip, custard or whatever ice-cream-dream concoction you can think of, is in Monroe County?

The poll will remain open until 11:59 p.m. July 21. Vote as many times as you like, and don't be shy about sharing this poll with others. We'll let you know the official results Monday.
