It’s the end of an era for Miami Beach as the beloved Shuckers Waterfront Bar & Grill, known for its laid-back vibes and stunning bay views, is set to close its doors by the end of 2024. The iconic eatery, which has been a staple on North Bay Village for 30 years, will make way for a new upscale hotel and dining experience, leaving many long-time patrons feeling disheartened.

Shuckers has been a cherished part of Miami’s waterfront dining scene, offering everything from hearty wings and fresh seafood to breathtaking sunsets and a casual atmosphere perfect for catching a game. With over 5k reviews, it’s clear that the restaurant’s charm has made a lasting impression. Matt J C, a visiting customer, summed it up perfectly, saying, “Went with people from my office in the early afternoon. My first time having just moved to Miami. Awesome views and setup, food is good, drinks and service are great…I also learned this is the last summer of this spot so check it out while you can!”

However, change is on the horizon. In 2023, it was announced that Shuckers would be demolished as part of a larger development project. The neighboring Best Western will also be taken down to make way for a high-rise. This summer, the details became clearer: Shuckers will be replaced by the Palm Tree Club, an upscale hotel featuring 118 luxury suites and a new restaurant.

While the prospect of a new, high-end development might excite some, many locals are mourning the loss of Shuckers. On an Instagram post by the Miami New Times, the sentiments were clear. Davey lamented, “If you grew up here, everything you knew is being replaced,” while Johnny James echoed the sentiment, “Can we not just have chill spots anymore? Shuckers is an institution. Big loss.”

For those who have treasured their time at Shuckers, the closing represents more than just a change in dining options; it’s the end of a beloved community spot that held a special place in the hearts of its patrons. As the new Palm Tree Club rises in its place, the challenge will be to capture the essence of what made Shuckers special while ushering in a new chapter for Miami Beach.
